Lightweight transformation of plastic soft packaging and adv
The soft packaging Association (FPA) said that as the second largest packaging area in the United States, soft packaging solutions accounted for 18% of the US packaging market valued at $145 billion. Lightweight soft packaging includes thin film, cross linking shrink film and laminate material, which are conducive to the transportation of high capacity products and reduce the raw materials needed for production. For brands, saving energy costs and reducing material costs is a revolutionary sport.
The reasonableness of the production of soft packaging
In the production process, the energy consumption of flexible packaging is 50% less than that of rigid bottle, and the plastic used is less than 60% of that of rigid bottle.
In production, soft packaging requires less materials, produces less CO2 during transportation, and occupies less space in landfills. Flexible packaging is more reasonable at the manufacturing / consumption cycle manufacturing stage because it has less negative impact on the environment than the corresponding rigid plastic bottle. According to FPA, the packaging of flexible upright bags is 35 times higher than that of metal covered glass bottles, and 21 times higher than that of aluminum cans.
Sustainable packaging is a major argument in the flexible packaging industry, which is still responsible for environmental responsibility. Recycled plastics are the answer to all consumers. Recycled plastics consume less energy than 80% of new plastic containers or bottles. But is recycling the only answer to environmental awareness? Does this apply to soft packaging?
Know yourself and know your own life, and the war is not dangerous.
At the beginning of discussing these problems, we cannot help but look at the imperfections of the bags.
Although the demand for packaging in various fields is increasing, the innovation of packaging bag is also improving, but the problem of lack of adaptation is still outstanding when it involves the forming factors of the bag. Whether this bag is used to fill the soap with a glue, or to be dry with a dry pellet, or a liquid to cook the sauce, its accessories are almost the same according to the soft packaging Association. In 2013, 58% of the soft packaging was packed in the retail and institutional food industry, and 12% in the non food retail package. Soft packaging has many advantages, such as less waste, low distribution cost and strong customization.
What will happen in the soft packaging industry if we pay more attention to the rigid components in the bag? What if the soft packaging industry solves the structural problem?
At present, there is no formal closed loop system to deal with the recovery of soft packaging, especially for multilayer high barrier materials, and the system of aluminum foil stacked structure in the PE layer. Single layer packaging is easier to recycle, because it does not contain aluminum foil central layer. The recovery process of multi-layer flexible PE packaging involves more steps than traditional plastic recovery schemes because of the separation of each layer. Then we need to analyze, identify and recycle each layer, and further process the plastic film to make recycled resin. Because of the large number of soft packages used for food packaging, food contamination has become another obstacle to recycling. For most of the soft packaging, food contamination is running through the current recycling system. In fact, the utilization ratio of packaging is very small. Non renewable polymers are sent to the anaerobic chamber for incineration, providing energy monitoring for the production workshop.
The forward-looking thinking group, such as the flexible packaging Association, has taken a series of great initiatives. It is very concerned about sustainable packaging. FPA is working with some manufacturers to study packaging for environmental safety. The sustainable plastics alliance, the post plastic regenerator Association (APPR) and the flexible film recycling group (FFRG) are also trying to promote and promote public education and publicity on plastic film recycling.
Soft packaging recovery
BarryTuner, President of the European packaging and Film Association (Pafa), has said the British media have distorted the authenticity of the value of plastic bags and "the minimal impact of plastic bags on the environment." In fact, all countries and regions are exaggerating about these things about plastic bags.
At present, the complete recovery of aluminum components by Enval and the use of pyrolysis plastic parts process is the best solution to the disposal of multilayer packaging waste. However, the solution of plastic parts in other plastic materials has not yet been fully recovered.
By pyrolysis, the carbonized residue containing inorganic materials contains 80% liquid carbon and 20% gaseous carbon (because of the lack of oxygen in the chamber, the CO2 gas is not produced). Depending on liquid fuel / energy requirements, these carbons can be transported to different locations. The ash produced can be used as a component of the concrete premix and other products. Carbon can be used as fuel. Companies often import mixed waste into the pyrolysis chamber to generate fuel that may not be optimal.
The effective way to turn this liquid carbon fuel into more durable and highly integrated energy needs to be further studied.
Finding a more effective waste treatment process (especially in pyrolysis) for soft packaging, which has a lower impact on the environment, is a challenging task and is possible. As the soft packaging industry has made innovations, such as the use of biobased materials or the conversion of waste into energy, the cornerstone of further development has been laid in place.
